Once upon a time a young large standard donkey came to live with Jim and Kristi Kingma at Grangeville, Idaho.   In the beginning, Luc was an only donkey pastured with young horses.   He taught them donkey values and was their guardian.   When foreign objects such as wild turkeys or a runaway bouquet of Mylar balloons invaded their domain it was Luc to the rescue.   We had found the perfect solution for our stock and our little donkey boy had found his nitch.

At training time, Luc was happy to accept harness and ground driving.   He participated in a driving clinic where he taught the instructor and audience how wonderful donkeys can be and yes, they have marvelous flexion.   This was accomplished following the clinician’s comment about how donkeys cannot bend.

Luc was destined to become a driving sensation.   His first parade was at Hamilton, MT a five hour one way trip over the famous Lewis and Clark Trail. His next journey was over 800 miles round trip.   In southern Idaho he became the star of a large family reunion, giving 30 plus cart rides.   He has so many events under his girth he is now known as the Parade Diva of North Central Idaho.

Final points were earned at Montana Mule Days where he proudly presented the club flag during the grand entry.   Luc arrived home as Reserve Grand Champion Halter Donkey with a rack of ribbons and a bright purple embroidered chair.   Not bad for a little ole’ desert donk at his first show!
