Luc

2007 Driving Participation Award
RMS Lippyluver Luc

What an enjoyable incredible journey for not only me, who always wanted an equine to drive, but for our large standard driving extraordinare! My personal goal was to deliver to the public a donkey as classy as any high stepping steed. Luc has that hey, look at me attitude, that can-do mind-set and the personality to pull it off.

Parades have been a pleasurable way to show off Luc in his Pacific Gig. A couple dozen of those drives have been hauling Grand Marshalls through parades, rodeos and show grand entries, including the delightful Bonnie Shields, The Tennessee Mule Artist. Recently Luc has been teamed with a mammoth donkey and hitched to a six passenger Robert’s wagonette adding another dimension to his driving abilities.

Luc has competed since 2005 at both Montana Mule Days and Hells Canyon Mule Days. In 2007 he earned the title of MT Mule Days Overall Grand Champion Driving Donkey.

This was the year for Luc to be featured in the Draft Horse Barn and spend nine days driving single and with his teammate through the MT State Fair grounds at Great Falls. What an opportunity to showcase how incredible donkeys can be!

Thinking back some of our most memorial drives have been the quiet ones just him and I enjoying the ever changing North Central Idaho seasons. Those are the drives I look foreword to in the future.

The moral to this story….Wanna drive?…. Get a donkey!

What started out as a question, “I wonder how Luc and Liberty would work together as a team?” put a whole new perspective into Lucer’s driving abilities. It was an immediate success. For nine days at the 2007 Montana State Fair at Great Falls they drove as a team in the mornings. Later each day Luc was hitched as a single to his contemporary Pacific Show Cart demonstrating his driving skills thru the crowds.

Labor Day was the official first parade appearance of Team Donk. Together the boys were relaxed and seemed to enjoy the accolades of the crowd and the hoopla of the festivities. They won their parade division and will be seeing more of these activities.

Other events included three parades and rodeo grand entries over the fourth of July holiday at Grangeville, Idaho’s Border Days rodeo celebration driving as a single and hauling the Grand Marshall. Luc was a participant in the parades during WhiteBird Rodeo, Montana Mule Days and the Idaho County Fair where he brought home a first place ribbon.

Accumulating over 500 VOHF points in 2007 has put Luc somewhere over the 1,350 point mark since joining the program as a youngster in 2004. The future certainly has a bright outlook to it now that Luc has become a permanent fixture in the Team Donk driving program.

Luc made his third appearance at Montana Mule Days recently, and it was his time to shine. Performing magnificently he earned two handsome embroidered garment bags, a Montana Silver Belt buckle and 14 ribbons. Luc’s crowning glory was to finish the show as Champion Halter Gelding, High Point Performance Donkey, High Point Driving Donkey, and the Grand Champion Overall Driving Donkey.

Showmanship was his first opportunity to appear before Judge Blemore. Making a terrific first impression he placed fifth in a class of 14 mules. In Donkey Obstacle Driving Luc was the only donkey to do all the challenges including docking. Somehow he dug deep into his heart to muster up the courage to chase cattle during the team penning class. We were elated!

We enjoyed a formal early spring trail ride with all horses and Luc was a photo of the day winner at www.equusite.com in March. A feature article written about the Kingma Donkeys was picked up by two magazines, a newspaper and a farm journal covering the western states. Lots of terrific responses were received from this media blitz.

www.classicequinedesign.com launched a website to showcase what our donkeys are capable of doing, it’s filled with stories and wonderful photography. Luc invites you to stop in for a visit at www.teamdonk.org

Here’s to RMS Lippyluver Luc’s third Honor Roll Continuing Excellence award.

I remember saying, “Watch Luc he slipped out the gate last time we fed a round bale.” As Jim is driving into the pasture with the tractor... Luc led his band of merry men out the gate. He was one happy little camper bucking and kicking ... he was free Willy and this time he had the gang with him.

Following several attempts to head the threesome back thru the gate Mr. Luc took off across Jim's deeply plowed field. I ran for treats and a halter... Jim followed the leader hoping to capture him before I got back.

By the time I arrived it was a major fiasco! Donkeys everywhere, they were on top of every dirt pile playing King of the Mountain, running and darting thru machinery in the dark, through the yard leaving hoof prints everywhere they ventured. Round and round the machine shed and into places I knew they should not be going especially at a high rate of speed. Who sez donks can't run?

Luc came charging up to me grabbed a couple of treats and took off. The other two were just running wild. Finally Jim captured their leader. The other guys yelled, "Luc, you dummy” as they flew by. Jim trapped team donk in the hay barn. The game was over!

ONLY took an hour to do a ten minute feeding job!

This is RMS Lippyluver Luc’s 2nd HOF Honor Roll; he sure didn't get any points for this adventure!
