HAMILTON, Mont. -- There was an immediate enthusiastic roar from the crowd as announcer Lee Daggert asked if everyone was glad to see June-uary warming up! At Hamilton, Mont., the Bitterroot Valley weather finally took a turn for the better to welcome long eared enthusiasts to the 26th annual Montana Mule Days held from June 13-15.

RMS Lippyluver Luc has been a regular at mule shows for the past three years. Jim and Kristi Kingma, of Grangeville, are owned by this large standard donkey who managed to bring home the gold from Montana's largest donkey and mule show. Honors presented to the Kingma's included Reserve Champion Halter Donkey and High Point Gaming Donkey. Luc retained his 2007 titles of High Point Driving Donkey and High Point Performance Donkey for the second year in a row.

Jim and Marilyn Stromberg, organizers of Montana Mule Days, presented donkey etched crystal bowls and a crystal canister to the Kingma's in celebration of Luc's earnings.  These beautiful pieces were created by Donna at www.equinerythyms.net.
Donna told me she likes to make each one special and that she certainly did.

Luc successfully placed in classes such as trail and flag race for the first time in his show career. One of Kristi's favorite classes is showmanship; out of 24 mules Luc secured a fourth, which is a huge accomplishment for a donkey boy. In the flapjack contest Chef Jim with his able ASSsistant Luc raced across the arena, built a campfire and cooked a pancake. Out of 20 contestants they came in third, problem was the judge didn't like Jim's cooking and disqualified them both. Jim has promised Luc to take cooking cuisine classes to make up for his poor performance as a pancake chef.

Julie Davis and the same donkey team penning threesome once again beat all the mule teams and came in with the show's best all around time for the second year in a row! Now the pressure is on, can they repeat that performance in 2009? You can find the team penning video by going to the Social Events page.

Josh Foster was featured as this year's show clinician. On hand was a large assortment of venders, plus plenty of good food and laughs galore. This family oriented show is a must for anyone who enjoys the immense draft mule eight up hitches to the old fashioned log pulls, packer's scramble and cattle events. Luc and teammate Liberty will be driving and riding for 10 days late July at the Montana State Fair in Great Falls. Luc is scheduled to appear at the Idaho State Western Fair in Boise mid August. Both boys will be competing at Hells Canyon Mule Days the weekend after Labor Day in Enterprise, Ore. Have Donk will travel.
